The Servant of the Lake Demo packs its entire dependency chain into a handful of tight puzzles: a portrait-driven safe, a kitchen stove chain, and a berry-hole insect chase inside Aldous Vanderboom’s breakfast bowl. Porridge recipe puzzle

Mr. Aldous expects his favorite breakfast before the morning routine can continue. The kitchen note spells out milk, oats, and sugar heated in the small pot on a lit stove. Our guide walks through wood, matches, ingredient locations, and the audit checklist when the finished porridge will not pick up.

Portrait code 235

The locked sugar cabinet does not print its combination on the door. Instead, three Vanderboom family portraits each perform a countable animation: Aldous shakes his watch three times, Alexandra raises two fingers, and William blinks five times. Enter 235 in portrait visit order to release the sugar.

Insect and berries puzzle

After porridge alone fails Aldous’s taste test, berries from the locked dresser drawer complete the bowl— but an insect hides beneath them. Feed the severed earlobe to the window bird for the dresser key, add berries, then manipulate holes until you can squash the bug before spoon-feeding Aldous enough times to clear breakfast.

Difficulty and design notes

Rusty Lake puzzles in the Demo reward observation over brute force. Portrait animations must finish before you count them; stove states must all be true before the pot becomes collectible; the insect puzzle requires dragging berries rather than tapping the spoon. If a step feels broken, compare your inventory against the page checklist rather than trying alternate number combinations— the Demo uses fixed solutions.
